ACCIDENT ON HILL ROAD Movie Review

Thursday, December 31, 2009

STARRING

Celina Jaitley, Abhimanyu Singh, Farooque Shaikh and others.

DIRECTION

Mahesh Nair

STORY

The plot of this psychological thriller revolves around the character of Sonam Chopra (played by Celina Jaitley) and the accident that she runs into. Sonam loves to party and on the night of accident, she was returning from such a party with her boyfriend Sid (Abhimanyu Singh).

As Sonam was driving very fast, the car rams into a pedestrian Prakash Shrivastava (played by veteran Farooque Shaikh). Even after the accident, Prakash continued to hang from the car, as the windshield of the car had him hanging down somehow.

However, Sonam Chopra, instead of going for providing medical help to Prakash Shrivastava, parks her car in the garage and tries to forget it. Sonam does this as she was wary of ruining her bright future by involving herself in this murky accident.

On the other hand, Prakash Shrivastava tries to free himself from the car’s windshield and get some medial help to survive. This conflict of interests on the part of two main protagonists provides ample fuel for a psychological thriller like this.

In between all this, there is also the character of Sid (Abhimanyu Singh) who is a drug- peddler and Celina Jaitley’s boyfriend.

What happens to Sonam Chopra and Prakash Shrivasatva forms the rest of the film.

PERFORMANCE

Celina Jaitley, who plays the character Sonam Chopra, comes out a winner in the deglamourized role of a nursing assistant. The gutsy actress proves that she is not only gorgeous, but can also do racy thrillers like Accident on Hill Road.

Celina Jaitley comes out more realistic and human when she tries to hide the fact of accident to safeguard her bright future in London with Red Cross. She was scheduled to go to London to work with Red Cross very soon and this accident could have jeopardized her career.

Abhimanyu Singh, the bollywood actor who became a household name after his earlier outing ‘Gulaal’ and enacts the character of Sid (Celina’s boyfriend) in this flick, is natural in the portrayal of this role. Though the character is somewhat negative with drug peddling etc, but Abhimanyu Singh has carried it on his shoulders convincingly.

Farooque Shaikh, the veteran actor of such memorable flicks like ‘Chashme Baddoor’, has infused life in the character of pedestrian Prakash Shrivastava. His facial expression successfully shows the different emotions like pain and surprise due to Celina’s behavior. Others have provided able support to the main cast of the flick.

The direction of Mahesh Nair passes the muster. However, it could have been better and needed a touch of finesse, which generally comes with experience and time only. However, he has handled the steamy sequences aesthetically.

The music of the film is good and Sonu Nigam’s ‘Nasha Nasha’ number has already become a rage with the audiences. The cinematography is good. Other production values are up to the mark.

STARDUST VERDICT

It’s a psychological thriller with Celina Jaitley, Abhimanyu Singh and Farooque Shaikh playing their part beautifully. The film will attract the audiences who have a liking for fast paced psychological thrillers. The hot, steamy and sensuous sequences between sizzling hot Celina and Abhimanyu Singh will be liked by the hoi polloi. A good fare.

Salman Khan in Farah husband film, Shah Rukh furious??

Salman Khan has won another round in his cold war with King Shah Rukh Khan, courtesy ace director and SRK’s close friend Farah Khan.

It has come to light that Farah Khan and her husband Shirish Kunder, who were prized guest at Salman Khan’s birthday bash on December 24 at his Panvel farm house, have entered into a deal with brawny Khan. According to this deal Salman Khan will feature in Shirish Kunder’s next directorial venture, with full Farah’s support. For the present, Shirish Kunder is busy with writing a special script for the flick, keeping Salman Khan’s personality in mind.

Once the script is ready, he will start the flick immediately after finishing John Abraham’s starrer ‘Alien Saheb’. As is well known, Farah Khan has been a very close friend of Shah Rukh Khan (she worked with him in ‘Om Shanti Om’ and ‘Main Hoon Na’) and this casting of Salman Khan, his enemy no one in a movie, will further deteriorate their relationship.

Earlier, Farah Khan had chosen Akshay Kumar over Shah Rukh Khan for her upcoming directorial venture ‘Tees Maar Khan’, and at that time there was much heartburn in the Shah Rukh Khan’s camp. Now, with the entry of Salman Khan in Farah Khan’s husband upcoming flick, it seems to be the end of the road for two talented Khans—Farah and Shah Rukh.

Sources say that the friendship between Farah Khan and Shah Rukh Khan went for a toss when King Khan could not give dates for Farah’s upcoming flick ‘Happy New Year’ in year 2010. Shah Rukh Khan had been keeping Farah busy by citing one or other problems in her script and she would rewrite the whole thing afresh.

However, when it became clear to Farah that Shah Rukh Khan would shoot his home production ‘Ra 1’ before her ‘Happy New Year’; she was furious and decided to move ahead. She moved towards Akshay Kumar and cast him in her upcoming venture ‘Tees Maar Khan’ as a hero.

With Salman Khan also joining Akshay Kumar in Farah’s casting list, the rift between Shah Rukh and Farah seems to have become even wider.

Actor Vindu Dara Singh won Bigg Boss | photos

Tuesday, December 29, 2009

Actor Vindu Dara Singh won the third season of popular TV reality show Bigg Boss and walked away with prize money of Rs 1 crore.

The 45-year-old, son of former wrestling champion and actor Dara Singh, has been waiting for one big push in his career since making his film debut in 1994.

The finale, hosted by megastar Amitabh Bachchan, saw performances by evicted contestants of the season like Raju Srivastav, Claudia Ciesla, Kamaal Rashid Khan, Sherlyn Chopra, Shamita Shetty, Tanaaz Currim and Aditi Govitrikar.

In the third season, it was Vindu's bouts of anger which became one of the main TRP-earning factors. He was often the man behind most of the plotting and planning on the show and engaged in many verbal fights with his co-contestants.

But luck worked in his favour and he received maximum votes from the public but his father never voted for him.

Vindu pipped veteran actress Poonam Dhillon and model Pravesh Rana win the show after staying in the Bigg Boss house since Oct 4 without any contact with the outside world.

Vindu's victory would hopefully work in his favour because even though he had his father's legacy, he couldn't script the same success story.

Vindu made his acting debut with Hindi film Karan (1994). Since then, he has acted in many films, mostly in supporting roles. He has also acted in TV serials, including the role of Lord Hanuman in the serial Jai Shri Hanuman, like his father did in the super-hit Doordarshan serial Ramayan.

He has played negative roles in serials like Ssshhhh...Koi Hai and Karma and also did Punjabi movie Rab Dian Rakhan (1996), directed by his father. Vindu was recently seen in Kambakkht Ishq and Partner.
,Even his father is pinning his hopes that his victory on Bigg Boss 3 would do good to his acting career as he feels his son has not got his due in the industry.

Vettaikaran – Tamil Music Review

Vettaikaran (Tamil: வேட்டைக்காரன்) is a forthcoming Tamil feature film directed by debutante film director Babu Sivan. The film is produced by M. Balasubramanian and B. Gurunath Meiyappan. The film stars Vijay and Anushka Shetty in the lead roles. The film’s background score and soundtrack is composed by Vijay Antony while Gopinath will be the film’s main cinematographer and V. T. Vijayan as the film’s editor.

Puli Urumudhu (Ananthu, Mahesh Vinayakram )
This is a fast paced song penned by Kabilan. There is nothing much to write about this song other than the fact that it sounds more situational .

Chinna Thamarai (Krish, Suchithra)
The song is the only melody in this fast paced album and Vijay Antony has done a wonderful job. Vivega is responsible for the lyrics and she has not faltered either.Watch out for the trumpet and the rap interludes. Krish and Suchithra with her deep dusky voice increase the appeal of the song.

Nan Adicha (Shankar Mahadevan,Sanjay Vijay )
Most probably this should be the intro song for Vijay. I actually liked this fast paces song with fun lyrics from Kabilan. I am amazed at Shankar Mahadevan’s versatile voice which helps him to render these kind of songs with so much ease. Vijay Antony has done a great job with the instrumentation and the build up to the song. The actor’s son Sanjay gets a chance to pitch in as well. This song will be a big hit with vijay’s fans.

Karigalan (Surchith, Sangeetha Rajeshvaran )
A peppy folk song with a nice beat. This song should give Vijay enough scope to show off his dancing talents. The rhythmic background interludes add more flavor to this rustic song. Surchith and Sangeetha suit the bill perfectly.

Uchi Mandai (Krishna Iyer, Shobha Chandrasekar, Charulathamani, Sakthi Sree)
This song is part of the standard features of the actors latest movies. A fast paced song which really does not make a lot of sense. It is still a lot of fun and the rhythm is pleasing. Shobha Chandrasekhar gets a chance to display her singing skills.

Overall this is a fast paced album which is very much in sync with Vijay’s movies these days. Vijay Antony as a music director is continuing his good form after the resounding success of Ninaithale Inikum

Buy it if you are a fan of energetic and rhythmic songs devoid of melody.
