Leena Manimekalai, the filmmaker of this generation bears the creative flair that is so important for a media technician. Leena uses her documentaries as a medium for social activism.
All her works will bring in the issues like caste and gender discrimination and child labour which affect our society. Earlier with her documentary film called ‘Parai’, she high-lighted the status of Dalits. She is also a known name among Srilankan Tamils for her poetical works. Leena’s husband Jerald is the director of mega serial ‘Madhura’ that is telecasted in Star Vijay TV. Leena is the one who writes dialogues for her husband’s serial.
Directing a film has been Leena’s long term dream. And time has come for her dream to turn true. She is gearing-up to give a film titled ‘Sengadal’ for which she is handling the script and direction. The shooting of the film will be done in areas around Rameshwaram Mandabam. ‘Sengadal’ is a family story that tells about the suffering of Srilankan Tamil refugees. Leena will be making the Srilankan refugees who live here to act in the film as well.
