Sangeetha’s bold act

Sangeetha’s daring and bold move to play a devadasi woman in Dhanam seems to have paid off.
The film is about how our society deals with a woman coming from a devadasi family. The debutant director Siva has been able to rope in Ilayaraja to provide music, Thotta Tharini as art director and B Lenin to edit the film. Besides Sangeetha, there is TV actor Prem who plays the hero, and stalwarts like Girish Karnad and Ashish Vidyarthi in supporting roles.
The writer- director Siva says, “Many may think that the film is focussed on the life of a prostitute. It is not true. Though the plot is related to devadasi system, I would never like to touch the issue. In this society, many think that a daughter of prostitute will also become a prostitute. If anyone tries to get out of the system, the society will never allow her to lead a dignified life. How my heroine Sangeetha faces all these problems boldly is the crux of the story.” The films daring stills have made it hot in the trade as it releases this Friday. Remember it is said to be Sangeetha’s most daring film after her seductive act in the super hit Uyir.
