Shilpa Shetty, the oomph queen of tinsel town who co-owns the Rajasthan Royals team of Indian Premier League (IPL), has made it clear that the decision to not bid for Pakistani star cricketers Shahid Afridi, Razzak, etc, was her own based on the assessment of risky atmosphere prevailing in the country in the aftermath of Mumbai terrorist attack.
Shilpa Shetty made it clear that she was not sure if the charged atmosphere in the country would permit the Rajasthan Royals team to use expensive Pakistani players in the tournament. As some of the matches, especially the opening ceremony of the tournament, were scheduled to be held in Mumbai, it was not advisable to take the players and incur losses in providing security and other amenities without being able to use them during the matches.
Shilpa Shetty also made it clear that she did not receive any directions from either Chairman of IPL or the Government of India and the decision was purely based on business calculation. The gutsy actress also expressed her regret over the on going Shah Rukh Khan-Shiv Sena controversy and said that it was most unfortunate.
Earlier, the IPL teams had been criticized by Shah Rukh Khan and others for snubbing the Pakistani players by not buying them in the auction despite of their availability for the season. In fact, Pakistani players had taken special permission from their Govt and Board for the tournament.
However, now Shilpa feels that the spirit of harmony among various IPL players will not be the same again after controversy over the Pakistani players took such an ugly turn that Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming flick ‘My Name Is Khan’ was being prevented from screening in Mumbai.
The Rajasthan Royals team of IPL, which boasts of the likes of Australian great Shane Warne and Indian all-rounder Yusuf Pathan, has also launched a new music album. The album has gorgeous Shilpa Shetty dancing to the tune of ‘Halla Bol’. It also has its first animated fan and mascot ‘Moochu Singh’ featuring in it.
