Where to watch those Oscar movies
Tuesday, February 2, 2010
OK, one last Oscar post and then I'm going to float away on a sea of Diet Coke, at least for today. For those of you wanting to catch up on your Oscar viewing now that the field has been narrowed, note the following:
Best Picture nominees:
In theaters everywhere: "Avatar," "The Blind Side," "Up in the Air"
In limited release: "An Education" (which will expand to a wider release, including a number of theaters outside Seattle, on Friday), "Precious," "A Serious Man"
On DVD: "District 9," "The Hurt Locker" (which will also open at the Varsity Friday), "Inglourious Basterds," "Up"
Acting nominees (other than those in movies mentioned above):
"Crazy Heart" (Jeff Bridges,Maggie Gyllenhaal) expands Friday to a number of theaters.
"The Last Station" (Helen Mirren, Christopher Plummer) opens Friday at the Uptown and Guild 45th
"Invictus" (Morgan Freeman, Matt Damon) and "Nine" (Penelope Cruz) are still playing at a handful of theaters; "The Lovely Bones" (Stanley Tucci) is everywhere.
"A Single Man" (Colin Firth) is at the Harvard Exit.
"The Messenger" (Woody Harrelson) appears to be in some sort of pre-DVD limbo. Currently not playing locally, far as I can tell, but that could well change.
"Julie & Julia" (Meryl Streep) is available on DVD.
I'll update this blog with additional expansions/re-releases as I hear of them.
